Cecile Breaux Poirrier, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023 at her sons home surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held for Cecile at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Monsignor Robert Romero will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 pm and the funeral home will remain open throughout the night until the service time on Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm.
Cecile was born on January 9, 1937 in Youngsville, LA to the late Claude and Laurence Romero Breaux and was one of two children. She was a kind and loving woman who adored her family- especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To Cecile, they were the entire world and she would do anything for them. She also enjoyed going to the horse races at Evangeline Downs. Cecile loved animals and would care for many different creatures. She has a soft spot for cats especially. She will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Roberta Bourgeois (Frank), John W. Poirrier, Larry J. Poirrier (Gerald), Chris Poirrier (Ruth) and Robert D. Poirrier (Tonia); grandchilden, Brittany Poirrier (Alex), Curtis Poirrier (Samantha), Tori Poirrier (Jeremy), Haven Poirrier, Micah Romero, Chad Bourgeois (Vinnie), Brad Bourgeois (Theah), Douglas Bourgeois (Courtney), Sheena Poirrier, Chris Poirrier, Jr., Crystal Poirrier, April Poirrier; great grandchilden, Talyn, Grey, Auburn, Eden, Hunter, Landon, Cypress, Mia, Kaia, Malaya, Braylon, Blaze, Laikyn, Waylon, Vaida, and Livi Mae; and brother, Gussy Breaux (Sarah).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Joseph Poirrier, Sr.; sons, Douglas Joseph Poirrier, Jr., Wilsey Poirrier, and Arthur Poirrier; and parents, Claude and Laurence Romero Breaux.
Pallbearers are Robert and Curtis Poirrier, Jeremy Gilbert, and Chad, Brad and Douglas Bourgeois.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Trahan, Mark Comeaux, and Paul Herman.
