Thomas F. Mullins of Valley Cottage, NY passed away with his loving family by his side on April 27, 2011 at Nyack Hospital. Thomas was born on September 22, 1932 in the Bronx, NY to Joseph and Lillian Mullins. He married the love of his life, Zina, on April 10, 1954 at Holy Rosary Church in the Bronx. They have been married for 57 wonderful years. Thomas graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, Bronx, NY, and served in the US Army, being honorably discharged in 1955. In 1956, Thomas began his career in law enforcement, joining the NYPD. He served 22 years and retired as a detective with the Bronx D.A. Squad. Upon his retirement, he embarked on his second career, becoming an investigator for the NY State Attorney General's Office for Medicaid Fraud, retiring in 1995. Thomas and Zina moved to Rockland County in 1965, residing in Valley Cottage where they raised their four children. Thomas became a founding member and Past President of the Rockland County Shields. He was the founder of the Hudson Valley 10-13 Association, providing this organization with decades of leadership serving as President and Treasurer. He was also a founding member of the West Nyack Swim Club and a parishioner of St. Paul's Church in Congers. Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Zina; his four children JoAnn (James) Kessler, Thomas (Debi) Mullins, Michael (Ann) Mullins, and Raymond (Olga) Mullins; as well as his grandchildren James and Michael Kessler, T.J., Ryan and Rebecca Mullins, Kathryn, Erin and Andrew Mullins, and Christina and Larissa Mullins. Thomas took special pride in each and every one of his grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Dorothy Heath and brothers James and Edward Thomas.
Viewing will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at St. Paul's Church in Congers at 10AM followed by entombment at Ascension Cemetery.
