Thomas James Dowd

Thomas Dowd of New City, NY, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022. Tommy was a long-time resident of New City. He was born on September 12, 1942, to Kathleen and Patrick Dowd in the Bronx and raised in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan. He went to Rice High School in New York City and married the love of his life, Carole, in 1961. Tommy had a long-distinguished career as a member of the New York City Police Department. He retired as a Lieutenant in February 2002 after serving almost 35 years. Tommy was also a scout master for the New City troop of the boy scouts of America and enjoyed scout camp with his children. Tommy enjoyed spending summers in Lavallette NJ with his family.

He is survived by five sons, Tommy, Michael (Christine), Dennis (Theresa), Patrick, and Brendan (Suzanne). He is also survived by four sisters Maureen (Edward), Terry (Bob), Kathleen (Bob), Patti (Bob) and seven grandkids Anna, Tommy, Patrick, Grace, Carolanne, Annie, and James. He was predeceased by his loving wife Carole and sister Eileen. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3pm to 7pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday March 7, 2022 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 10 W Stevens Avenue Hawthorne NY 10532.
