Stephen F. Ryan

Stephen entered the world on October 23, 1930 to Irish immigrant parents, Stephen and Elizabeth Ryan. He was born and raised in The Bronx, NY.

He attended St. Francis of Rome Elementary School and graduated from Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 1948. He earned a BA from Iona College and a Master’s Degree from LIU-Tarrytown Campus.

Stephen served in the US Navy during the Korean war on the Cruiser Class Ship, USS Worcester.

Stephen joined the NYPD in 1956 and proudly served his entire career in the Bronx; retiring in 1991, as a First Grade Detective in Bronx Homicide.

Stephen and Mary moved with their family to Rockland County in 1963. He became a very active participant in many clubs and organizations. He was a founding member and former President of the Rockland County Shields, a founding member and officer of The Retired Detectives Club for the NYPD, and a member of the 1013 Club. He was also the District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus and an officer in the VFW. Stephen also enjoyed being involved in Eucharistic Ministry for St. Paul’s Church in Congers.

Steve loved his family and friends, he loved God, he loved America, and he loved being from the Bronx. All of his efforts were given to make the world a better place for everyone.

Stephen was a loving husband of 62 years to his wife, Mary (Daly). Beloved father of Rosemary and her husband Brad Weidel, Stephen Ryan, and Eileen Ryan. Cherished grandfather of Erin, Bryn, and Grace Weidel, and Sara and Nicolas Tabio. He is also survived by his sister Lillian “Marie” Rice, sister in-law Grace Sullivan, brother in-law Peter and his wife Jean Daly, and many nieces and nephews. Stephen is predeceased by his parents and his brother William “Bill” Ryan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday May 31, 2022 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St, New City, NY 10956.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at 11am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 25 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY.

The burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY.
