Robert Gerald Hastings, 59, of Smithtown, NY and long-time resident of New City, NY passed in his sleep peacefully beside his beloved wife Jeanine Hastings. He was ushered to his place in heaven beside his Father - Gerald and two Brothers, Stephen and Gerry who predeceased him.
Born to Joan and Gerald Hastings on December 11, 1964, Robert was raised alongside his four siblings, Linda, Stephen, Gerry and Kevin who loved him dearly. Remembered by many as an unstoppable force, Robert was propelled by his passion, strong will, and tenacity starting as early as his High School football career where he was feared on the field. Off the field, his natural charisma and boisterous character drew in many who came to love him, and became his lifelong friends.
These same traits captured the heart of his High School sweetheart, Jeanine - whom he later married and loved intensely. Together they grew their family and raised their son Gerald. Robert considered him his greatest accomplishment. When Gerald fell in love, Robert was overjoyed to welcome “the daughter he never had”, Amanda, and later his grandson Cole into his family circle.
Stubborn in the best ways, he accomplished anything he set his mind to. In his career, he was a mechanical engineer before his time as an operating engineer for Locals 30 and 15 and eventually Shop Steward for Local 30. Prior to his passing he proudly boasted his title as Senior Superintendent at Lendlease Construction.
In his life, Robert Hastings poured himself into his family and friends. Many remember him as a fisherman, a cook, a beekeeper, or even just “Hobby Bobby,” but he cherished most being known as a volunteer firefighter and Nam Knight.
His legacy, his love, and his memory are carried on in hearts of his Wife and Son -Jeanine and Gerald, his Mother - Joan, his Sister and Brother - Linda and Kevin, his daughter in-law - Amanda, his Grandson - Cole,
He deeply touched so many beyond this, including his brother and sister-in-laws: Cathy Hastings, Andy Kane, Michael and Loraine Romano, Joseph and Bonnie Romano, and Janny and Marie Romano.
Their children, his nieces, and nephews will fondly remember him as a big kid who loved each of them as his own. These include Kevin and Tony Hastings, Andrew and Krystina Kane, Devon and Stephanie Hastings, Mary and Dakota Kuykendall, Vincent and Helen Cricco, Daniella and Cade Carter, Tony Olivas, Joey and Ceili Romano, as well as Michael, Maggie, and Sean Romano.
