I met Michael in my early 20s-gazillion years ago. He, Charlie & I would go out to dinners, exhibits and events where David Chertok presented. I enjoyed those immensely.  We all loved going to dinner at Corrine and David's house along with Arthur, their next-door neighbor.
Our youthful times were spent being supportive of each other. Those times were so wonderful and character forming.  They seemed never ending. We didn't realize at the time how short they were.
I remember him telling me about the birth of his twins. I was thrilled for him. I, being a delivery room nurse, discussed his experience at the time. It was exciting for him to have his sons but the DR experience, not so much.  A very common experience actually.

Mike and I went to CCNY together. We laughed all the time! Played music together and talked about blues and jazz. He was the sweetest guy and wonderful friend.  We kept in touch long after College.  He would visit us in Northern, Inevitably the worst winter weather.  He was so kind and proud of his children.. Great memories of our friendship. In the last few years as his health declined I still heard his kind soul shine through. May his memory be a blessing. I will miss him. 

Michael was one of the kindest, funniest and smartest people I know, and such an involved and loving dad. He had the spirit of an artist and spending time with him always resulted in the most interesting and personable conversations. He had to leave too soon, I am so sorry.  

Michael , para mi Eres, fuiste y siempre serás alguien súper especial por ser un SER de LUZ… que iluminaste mi vida, la vida de toda mi familia y en especial la vida de mi nieta Camila, quien fue muy deseada y protegida por El. Y cuando digo deseada es porque su mayor deseo era ser abuelo, pues tenía demasiado que aportar a cualquier niño y era tanto así que tomamos la decisión de irnos la FL a vivir cerca de su mejor amigo de toda la vida y ya que teníamos fecha de irnos Michael cambió de idea porque uno de sus gemelos se había casado  y eso le daba la posibilidad de ser abuelo…. Y eso en verdad se hizo realidad muy rápido, pues Greg y Katie se embarazaron de aRosalie, su primera de sus tres hijos… y más adelante Alex y Freddy tuvieron a su hijo.
Más adelante tuve que irme con  Mi hija Sttephany quien estaba embaraza y se le presentó una situación de salud y ahí ya terminó nuestra relación, pues me dediqué a ser abuela  y Madre ya cuento con 5 nietas 3 de mi hija y 2 de mi hijo Jorge David…quien no le fue posible estar presente por situaciones de salud , pero conociéndolo y sabiendo lo mucho que quería a Michael estaría  acompañándonos hoy… Michael se enamoró de mi familia de mis amigos y especial de la MUSICA Latina.. se apasionó tanto que dejó un promedio de 2000 CDS hechos por El cómo homenaje a sus Artistas favoritos.. es muy grande el dolor que siento pero me reconforta todo lo que aprendí de Él .. que DIOS lo acoja en su Santa Morada…Eternamente  vivirás en mi corazón y en el de mi familia.. NO ES UN ADIOS ES UN HASTA LUEGO, muy pronto nos veremos.. Ana Peguero..!

Michael was a wonderful Dad and Popi.  His love of music will live on in his three amazing and beautiful Grandchildren.  

Whenever I would meet Michael, I'd say "hi Michael, so nice to see you."  His reply was always:  "So nice to be seen." 

We will all missing seeing Michael.  Sincere condolences to all of the Chertok family.  

I met Michael in 1979, thanks to Dave (M's father) and Phyllis (my mother) and the jazz record enthusiasts club where they became pals.  Michael brought me his cousin, Gary, and Gary's posse of friends.  A few years later, all of us coupled, and Michael and Susan having given us Greg & Alex, we would meet up at Chez Chertok and have what would become possibly the most fun-filled times of my life.  Michael would treat us to private viewings from the fantastic collection of Jazz On Film passed down by Dave.  He turned us on to Slim Gaillard and Louis Jordon, and other lesser-known musical greats, who I still listen to and love.

 Losing Michael by degrees was painful, but up until just a few years ago, he'd find out what music people loved, and put together CDs for them.  This included acquaintances, and old folks from his job as a home health care aide.

 I'll hang on to dozens of  photos depicting the fun times, a treasure trove of Jewish jokes, warped Yiddish expressions, and memories of all of us laughing so hard we were gasping for air.  Let's never stop sharing stories and memories.  We should stay connected to each
other to honor him. 

 If  there’s a heaven for Jewish atheists, Michael’s no doubt looking down and smiling with us, and remembering the best of times.

I am so sorry for your loss. My beloved Michael rest in peace now. My condolences to the family and friends.

I knew Michael through his cousin Gary. I liked him very much and always found him to be good company. I am very saddened by his passing.  

Michael drove us, and our first child Megan home from Lenox Hill hospital to Astoria. 
In spite of my constant, nervous, complaints about him hitting potholes he never betrayed annoyance. 
That came decades later when he enjoyed kidding me about how ungrateful I was. 
When Michael and Susan’s boys were young we spent good times with them. We were all just starting out. 
Vera and I have very fond memories of those days. 
He was and is loved.
