Mary Ellen McCarthy (nee Joyce) formally of New City, NY, passed away peacefully in her home on October 18th. She was born on March 22, 1947 in Derryvealawama, Recess, Co. Galway, to the late Michael and Barbara Joyce. She came to America at the age of 17 where she met her husband and raised their three boys while owning Station One Deli and Pizza in Blauvelt, NY as well as The Rose of Killarney Pub in Washington Heights.
She was predeceased by her husband Eugene McCarthy in 2013, and her sister Margaret Sammon in 2003. Mary is survived by her sons Eugene McCarthy, John McCarthy and wife Irene (nee Taylor) and Brian and wife Jennifer (nee O’Reilly). She was proud of her grandchildren John, Terrence, Eugene, Fiona, Eíreann and Jhonny. She is also survived by her siblings, Ann, Betty, Barbara, Martin, Padraig, Johnny, Tom and Peter along with their spouses. She loved to be surrounded by her abundant amount of nephews, nieces and their children from both sides of the pond.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, October 24, 2018 2-4 and 7-9. A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018, 10 AM at St. Augustine Church followed by a private cremation.
