Kathleen (Kit) Corcoran (nee McCormack) of Nanuet, NY, 95 years young, has peacefully passed away after a long fulfilling life. Kathleen was born to Thomas and Amy McCormack in Drummin, Ballinagare, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. Kit trained as a nurse & midwife in England & later returned to Roscommon Hospital as an operating room nurse. Later, Kathleen married Martin & immigrated to Brooklyn, NY to start a family, never loosening her Irish roots or losing her accent. After her daughters were born, Kit continued to practice nursing in NY & earned her BSN from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, eventually retiring as an Assistant Director of Nursing at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Staten Island. A frequent host to her Irish guests, Kathleen was an honest & loyal friend to many, a talented seamstress & baked delicious apple pies but her greatest joy came from her family. Kit is survived by her daughter Sheila Corcoran (Paul Schofield) of New City NY & her daughter Amy Corcoran-Drogalis (Stephen) of Stewart Manor NY. Kathleen is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Kathleen, Amy, & John Schofield & Maeve & Conor Drogalis, in addition to many treasured nieces & nephews. Kit was predeceased by her loving husband Martin & her siblings: Eileen & Mick (Ireland), Tom (Scotland) & Pat (England). Kathleen will be greatly missed by all who were lucky to know her.
Family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 15 from 3-7pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 11:30am at St. Anthony’s Shrine Church, Nanuet, NY. Internment will follow at a later date in her homeplace of Roscommon, Ireland.
