Our beloved mother Gloria Occhiogrosso, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2017, surrounded by her family, in a room full of love. Gloria was born July 24, 1923 to Mauro and Lillian Masini in Bronx New York.
Gloria and her husband Frank (predeceased in 1986) were owners of Ideal World Travel at the Flatbush Avenue Junction in Brooklyn, New York. They enjoyed memorable cruises, and traveled many places in the world together, from Europe to Asia. She and Frank enjoyed a loving and fruitful marriage for over 30 years, and were devoted to each other in every way.
Gloria is survived by her seven children, Rosemary Occhiogrosso and husband Stephen Fischer, Regina Occhiogrosso and husband David Schwartz, Michael Occhiogrosso and wife Faith, Francis Occhiogrosso and wife Deborah, Laura Occhiogrosso, Julia Occhiogrosso and husband Gary Cavalier, and Christa Occhiogrosso. She is also survived by her brother Bruno Masini, his wife Betty, and by her sister and best friend, Diana Occhiogrosso, and sister-in-law Jennie Silecchia. She is predeceased by her brother Hugo Masini and his wife Lillian, her brother–in-law Joseph Occhiogrosso, Terry and Joe Papandrea, Nick and Nancy Archer, Frank Silecchia, and by recently deceased cousin Mildred.
Gloria was so proud of her grandchildren, Rachel and Joshua (Allison), Damian (Savitri) and Jesse (Hanna), John and Michael (Ashley), Dylan and Dana, and Cody and Nicholas. She was overjoyed by the arrival of her great grandchild Ike Fischer, born to Damian and his wife Savitri.
“Aunt Gloria” was often surrounded by her many loving nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for welcoming friends and family to her home, and hosting many holiday gatherings and her famous polenta parties.
Gloria was looking forward to the wedding of her grandson Michael Cullen Occhiogrosso to Ashley Cole on July 22, 2017. Now she will be honored and remembered fondly by friends and family gathering at this event.
