Mr. Gilbert R. Camacho, born on May 22, 1932 in New York City was called to Heaven on January 28, 2021 at the age of 88. He had recently moved with his family from New York to enjoy the climate of South Carolina.
Gilbert attended John Hopkins University and CCNY. He enjoyed music, and older classic movies from 1920-1960, with TCM being his favorite network.
He grew up a huge Brooklyn Dodger fan and kept their memory close to his heart. Being a true sports fan he also cheered for his New York Mets, New York Giants, and New York Rangers.
His passion in life was sharing knowledge and life experiences which ultimately led him to become a beloved teacher, coach, and mentor at Clarkstown North High School and Clarkstown South High School. His devotion to the betterment of humanity was encapsulated in kindness and equality for all people.
Mr. Camacho was predeceased by his loving wife Olivia (Peg) Camacho, his mother Rose, father Gilbert, brothers Gustave and William, and sister Margaret. He is survived by his sister Catherine Camacho and brother Arthur Camacho as well as Ernie and Jean Melendez, Marlena and Karl Tiborsky, Derek Tiborsky and Christine Temitope-Soetan, Ryan Tiborsky and Trish Cannon, Steven and Kiana Tiborsky, Olivia Melendez, Katy Melendez, Analea Tiborsky, and Benji Cannon.
Funeral services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Friday February 5, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm. The funeral mass will be at St. Augustine’s Church in New City on Saturday February 6, 2021 at 10am.
