Gertrude Reynolds

Gertrude Reynolds, a long-time resident of Nanuet passed away peacefully in Virginia on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the age of 98. Born in Astoria, NY on May 15, 1918, she was the second child of Paul Sr. and Kunigunde Bernritter. Her older brother Paul Jr. predeceased her. The family moved to Nanuet in 1925, she was graduated valedictorian from Pearl River High School and was married to Charles Reynolds in August 1943.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 54 years in 1997. Surviving her are her two children, Laura Cearnal of Alexandria VA and George Wagner of Mahwah, NJ, their spouses, David Cearnal and Vinora Wagner and four grandchildren, Aimee Wagner of Charlotte, NC, Kyle Wagner and his spouse Laura of La Grande, OR, Brenden Wagner of Warwick, NY, Colin Wagner of Mahwah, and her 14-month old great-grandson Finn Wagner of La Grande, OR.

She was a member of St. Anthony parish in Nanuet for more than 80 years and enjoyed the Senior Club until moving to Virginia in 2005. Her gardening was a source of great joy with beautiful flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. She was an accomplished seamstress and was exceptionally active all her life, swimming, walking, dancing. While a resident of Goodwin House in Virginia, she was awarded a bronze medal in Wii Bowling at the Senior Olympics – at age 92.

Gertrude had many life-long friends and loved to travel. An outstanding homemaker, she returned to secretarial work at St. Agatha’s Home in Nanuet when she had raised her children and later retired to enjoy travel. A child of the Great Depression and a survivor of the World War II years, Gertrude loved and appreciated her family and friends, had a gentle, quiet, sweet nature, was kind and strong, and never forgot the importance of enjoying life.

A Roman Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, February 27 at St. Anthony Church in Nanuet. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery will follow the Mass.
