Stanley, the son of Stanley A. and Mary Filewicz, was born and raised in New Britain. He attended Sacred Heart High School, St. John Kanty Prep in Erie, PA before returning to CT to earn his Bachelor’s at Trinity College in Hartford.
He attended New York Medical College, then did his residency at St. Francis Hospital.
Stanley proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and was medical officer aboard the USS Glacier during “Operation Deepfreeze” keeping the shipping lanes open to McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
After being honorably discharged, Stanley completed his medical residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, LA, where he met his future wife, Charlyn Kelly Filewicz of Baton Rouge, LA.
In 1966 Stanley returned home to New Britain, where he practiced Orthopedic Surgery for 35 years. Stanley was owner and President of New Britain Orthopedic Surgical Group Inc., a director of People's Savings Bank and Webster Savings Bank, a Corporator of the Boys & Girls Club of New Britain Connecticut, and past president of the New Britain Medical Society.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 54 years Charlyn, his children and grandchildren. Keith Filewicz, (Stacy Witt) Greyson and Fox Filewicz, Heather Filewicz McMillan and Arden McMillan, C. Kelly Filewicz (Gina Filewicz), and was predeceased by his son Daniel Jude Filewicz.
Funeral services will be held Saturday November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church 48 Cottage St. East Berlin, CT. Burial with Military Honors will be in the family plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Britain. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.
