Margaret “Grams” Cizman, 99, of the Jerome Home, New Britain and formerly of East Hartford, CT., and Dacula, GA., widow of Peter Cizman, passed away March 2nd, 2017. Born July 19th, 1917, she was the daughter of Filomena (Minnie) and George Grasso. Known affectionately as Grams to many, Margaret’s love of life, faith, positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor were an inspiration to all who met her. Grams enjoyed spending time with and talking to her grandchildren, baking, watching her beloved Red Sox and the UConn Women’s basketball teams and listening to her books.
Before her retirement, Margaret was employed as a Cafeteria Manager for the East Hartford School Systems. She was a longtime volunteer, lending her time, her talents and her heart at her local Senior Center and Blessed Sacrament Bingo in East Hartford as well as leading an exercise class and baking for the Jerome Home.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Smith of Dawsonville, GA, her grandchildren; Peter Cousineau and his wife Shannon of GA., Kerry Paine and her husband Tom of FL., and Frederick Ferrara and his wife Coral of Thomaston, CT., six great grandchildren; Zachary, Thomas Jr. Ryan, Olivia, Alycia and Miley, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, the love of her life. Besides her family, she leaves behind some very special friends at the Jerome Home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 36 Cambridge St. East Hartford, CT. Burial will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.
