Janusz S. Podlasek, 86, husband of Carmen H. Podlasek of Farmington, passed away on February 7th, peacefully in his sleep. Janusz was born January 15, 1930 in Wloclawek, Poland to Zofia and George Podlasek. He came to the United States after surviving World War II, graduated from New Britain High School and then joined the U.S. Airforce where he served during the Korean War. He married Carmen in 1953 and they made their home in Farmington. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Connecticut and with his father founded Winslow Automatics Incorporated in 1956. During this time, he became an integral part of the Polish American community and helped many Polish immigrants. Winslow Automatics has endured for 60 years and is one of his crowning achievements. He considered all the employees part of his extended family. His work ethic was evidenced by his daily attendance at Winslow unto his passing. He was a member of the Hartford Club, 44 Club, Salvation Army and actively involved with CCSU regarding sister Polish Universities. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished time spent with family. In addition to his wife, Carmen, of 62 years, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Wendi Scata and her husband Robert, of Farmington, his son, John Podlasek and his wife Iza, of Poland and his son, J. George Podlasek and his wife Debbie of Farmington. He loved his six grandchildren dearly, Janusz, Alex, Carley, Victoria, Erika and Matthew. In addition to his family, he will be missed by many friends and business acquaintances. He is predeceased by his mother Zofia, father George and his sister Wanda. Janusz’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to his caregiver for her wonderful care and support during his illness. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, February 11th, from 4 – 7 pm at the New Britain Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain. Funeral Liturgy will be held, Friday, February 12th at 10:00 am in Holy Cross Church, 31 Biruta Street, New Britain. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
