Born on 24 October 1936 in Lewiston Maine, he was the son of the late Fordyce U. Richardson and Doris W. Tardiff.
He married Rita Allaire Richardson on 14 February 1981 in the Naval Station chapel on Treasure Island, CA.
Upon graduating from Edward Little High School in Auburn Maine, June of 1955, Don joined the Navy. He graduated from Boot camp as company honor man and then attended Fleet Sonar School in Key West, FL.
Don was married to Rita Cecile St. Pierre Richardson from 1959 to 1980.
During his colorful 26 year Naval career he held the enlisted pay grades of E-1 through E-8, Warrant Officer grades of W-1 through W-4 and officer grades of O2E, O3E, and O4. He retired in July of 1981. His last duty station was Officer In Charge of Mobile Technical Unit (MOTU-9), Treasure Island, CA.
Some of his duty stations include FSS Key West, FL; NCS Iceland; NCS Panama; NRST Cutler, ME and Supships Bath, ME.
He served on two Destroyers, the USS Caperton (DD-650) and the USS Barry (DD-933) and one Destroyer Escort, the USS Edward McDonald (DE-1043).
His medals include Good Conduct with Five (5) Stars, Navy Achievement, Unit Citation and Meritorious Service.
Shortly after retiring he was President of Paige Communication Corp of Louisiana and Dorrial Inc. Businesses he and his wife owned and operated in Metairie, LA.
He was a director and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Metairie Rotary Club, Director and PUFL in the National Sonar Association, PUFL American Legion Post 1 Republic of Panama, PUFL VFW Post 3822 Republic of Panama, Member of the Tin Can Sailors and TROA, and a lifetime member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.
In addition to his wife Rita Allaire, he is survived by their daughter Dorrial Ann Marie and husband Randy Giveans of Houston, TX, his son Court and wife Megan Richardson of Mandeville, LA, daughter Holly and husband Blake Stock of Plano, TX and Dawn Marie of Santiago, Republic of Panama. Grandchildren are Channing and Avery Stock and Logan Rosiere.
At his request, there will be no calling hours, mass or funeral ceremony. LCDR Richardson will be cremated and buried at sea off the coast of Key West Florida. His choice of internment.
