Bill was born in Pratt, Kansas on October 20, 1944, to CMSgt Hugh T. Smith and Mary Agnes McCormick while his father was serving in the United States Air Force. In approximately 1949, the family moved to San Antonio, TX where he started elementary school. From 1953 until 1956, Bill lived with his family in Landsberg, Germany where he became fluent in German and served as the family interrupter. He truly loved Germany, and it fostered his love to travel and see the world. In 1956, his father was reassigned back to San Antonio, Texas and he attended Thomas Jefferson High School from his Freshman to Junior years. The family moved into another district prior to his Senior year, and he graduated from John Marshall High School in the class of 1963. While in high school, Bill was on the swim and diving team and won many medals. He also worked as a lifeguard during the summers.
After graduation, Bill went to work for San Antonio Savings and Loan as a loan officer. He eventually went to work for Snap on Tools as the West Texas District Credit Manager. After a thirty (30) year career with Snap on Tools, he retired in 1993.
Bill loved to travel, especially cruising, and enjoyed meeting new people and discovering new cultures. He was fortunate to visit a wide diversity of the world and treasured what each had to offer. He was interested and dabbled in photography, loved to bowl and was an avid golfer.
Bill was proceeded in death by his grandparents Steve and Annie Smith and Thomas W. and Annie Mae McCormick, as well as his parents, Hugh T. and Mary Agnes Smith.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Susan Smith Rose, step-brother Michael (Mike) Foxworth and wife Patsy; step-sisters Jacquelyn (Jackie) Anselmo and husband, Roy, Phyllis (Phyl) Nielsen and Karen Foxworth along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
