Pat was born on December 27, 1952, in Austin, Texas. He was raised in New Braunfels, Texas by his parents Stanley Nelson Byrne and Jerline Sophie Byrne. Pat attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School through middle school and graduated from New Braunfels High School as a proud Unicorn. Pat's passion for sports was evident throughout his life. He excelled in baseball, playing Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion locally in New Braunfels. His Varsity Baseball team at NBHS became District Champs in 1970. Pat continued to follow his love for the game on a scholarship at St. Mary's University and as a pitcher for the New Braunfels Lions, a local semi-pro team. His achievements extended to basketball, earning an award in the 1970-71 season.
Pat went on to work as a Security Manager for Smith Protective Service before retiring to his hometown. Retirement marked the beginning of his adventures of traveling the world, visiting all 50 states, taking cruises, and visiting baseball stadiums across the US and Canada. In fact, Pat achieved his lifelong goal of visiting all 30 active baseball stadiums by seeing the Texas Rangers play in their new stadium in 2021. It was well know that his favorite destination in the world was the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
In his later years, Pat loved listening to the Rat Pack with a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other. If he was in a particularly joyous mood, it was not uncommon for him to belt out Dean Martin classics, especially “That’s Amore”. His love for sports continued as he enjoyed playing a round of golf with his buddies or keeping up with the Astros.
Pat's greatest joy came from supporting his grandchildren in their sporting activities and fulfilling their insatiable desire to travel. He was a dedicated grandfather and great-grandfather, always there to provide guidance and encouragement, helping them navigate through college and life.
Pat married the love of his life, Linda Lee Byrne, on December 19th, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were each other’s best friends and companions for 30 years until his passing. They shared so many fond memories together, more than can be listed here.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Jerline, and his loyal dachshund, Woofie, whom he cherished dearly.
He is survived by his devoted wife Linda; stepchildren John (Lisa) Barfield, Jr. and Terry Hall; grandchildren Sean Barfield, Joshua (Alyson) Hall, James (Darby) Hall, Jaelynn Hall, and Matthew Barfield; great-grandchildren Judah Barfield, Oden Barfield, Sloan Broughton, and Layne Hall. He is also survived by his brother Mike Byrne and niece Suzanne.
As we gather to remember and celebrate Pat's life, we are grateful for each of you who have come to pay tribute. Pat's unique spirit touched us all, and we feel blessed to have had him in our lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and fond memories that will forever be cherished.

The family would like to sincerely thank Halcyon Hospice and their staff for their wonderful care the past few months. They provided us, and more importantly Pat, the comfort and peacefulness that we needed during this trying time. We would also like to say thank you to our friends who have provided their unwavering support (and meals) this summer. Linda would like to especially thank Celeste Salge for her love and care, none of this week’s events would be possible without her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pat’s name to Halcyon Hospice (8133 Mesa Dr STE 200, Austin, TX 78759) or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
