Barbara Dolores Gomez, 72, passed peacefully into her heavenly home after a 7-year journey with Alzheimer’s on May 13, 2023, in the comfort of her home in New Braunfels, Texas, with her husband and family by her side.
Born on July 18, 1950, in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, she graduated from Robert G. Cole High School in 1968 and attended San Antonio College. Being part of a proud Army family, she lived in Hawaii, Japan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, California, and settled in San Antonio, TX. She met the love of her life, Rudy, at San Antonio College and one year later they were married at St. Peter Prince of Apostles Catholic Church in 1972. Together, they raised three children and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
After graduating from high school, she worked for Ft. Sam Houston PX in customer services and in retail sales before opening her own registered home day care business in San Antonio. She managed and operated their family electronic repair business for 17 years in Universal City and then spent 9 years volunteering at St. Thomas More Catholic School. Barbara regularly volunteered for scouting, school, and the sports activities of her three children.
Barbara was an excellent homemaker, decorator, cook, nurse, and cheerleader for her children. She loved music and dancing and was quite social. She appreciated gardening because of her love for flowers and birds. She enjoyed entertaining and having family and friends over, especially for the Christmas holidays where she and the family spent many days decorating their home for the holidays. She was an active member of the San Antonio Tree Trimmers Club and enjoyed volunteering and working with other members of the Club to decorate trees for the Warrior and Family Support Center.
