William Wayne (Bill) Taylor, age 77, of New Bern, passed away on Monday, July 15. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Linda Taylor; his children Melanie King and her husband Jason and Billy Taylor and his wife Angela; grandchildren Gabriel and Ella King; brother Steve Taylor; sister-in-law Vicky Taylor; brother-in-law Clayton Mobley, and many special nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents William and Irene Taylor; sister Judy Taylor; brother-in-law Jimmy Taylor; and sister-in-law Audrey Mobley. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran.
Bill was born on February 22, 1947 and learned early the value of hard work while being raised on a farm in Bear Grass, NC. He was a dedicated 49 year employee of Trader Construction Company, and his contributions were pivotal in shaping the company into what it is today. He tirelessly gave of himself whenever he could be of service, from the New Bern Jaycees in his first years in New Bern to the boards of Craven Community College and the Salvation Army. He was forever grateful for the opportunity to help a child in need, and was always generous with his time, heart, and spirit. He left behind a world full of step stools that he lovingly crafted in his wood shop for countless children.
He enjoyed spending his time fishing, but more so teaching others to fish and sharing the joy in their catch. He loved to hunt, especially at his home-away-from home in Pungo, NC with his close friend Drew Willis, but found even more satisfaction in preparing places for others to hunt. He took immense pride in planting and tending his garden with his gardening partner, Jim Brown, and purposely planted more than he needed so he could share his harvest with friends and loved ones. But more than anything, he found the most happiness when his beloved grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, came to visit and he could take them for a boat ride and delight in their smiles and laughter.
Bill made a profound impact on everyone that he encountered, and his loss will be felt by everyone that was fortunate enough to know how much he loved them.
Memorial service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 309 New Street, New Bern NC on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church's fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Craven Community College Foundation (https://cravencc.edu/foundation) or the Salvation Army of New Bern (https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/new-bern/)
