Sandra Joan Rawlings was born in Mount Kisco, New York on July 1, 1940 and passed away on June 30, 2024, one day short of her 84th birthday.
Her parents were John Russell ‘Russ’ Rawlings and Alma Kirkham Rawlings both deceased. She is survived by her brother, John Rawlings (Brenda) of Greenville, NC.
She graduated from Green Mountain College with an Associates Degree and started her career in Office Management in Washington, DC and Atlanta, GA. She returned to New York in 1980 to work for the Westchester County Department of General Services prior to retiring and moving to Wilmington, NC in 1989, eventually moving to New Bern in 2002.
Over the past 20 years Sandra was a devoted member and volunteer for several organizations. She was an active, longtime member in the New Bern Woman’s Club, where she served in various board positions including Yearbook Editor, Public Issues Chair, Vice President and President. In 2009, she was awarded the prestigious ‘Club Woman of the Year’ for her ongoing dedication to the New Bern Woman’s Club. For many years she volunteered for the annual BikeMS fundraiser, as well as, the annual New Bern Preservation Foundation Antique Sale.
Sandra was a life-long pet owner and she loved sharing stories of the various escapades of her furry companions. Her last little dog, Megan, predeceased her by 3 days.
Sandra’s dry wit and gentle sarcasm always let you know exactly how she stood on any subject. She will be missed by her family and many friends in New Bern.
