I am saddened to learn of Mr. Kendrick's passing. My father was a Marine Colonel, Tom Stuart. He worked with Mr. Kendrick at Cherry Point in 1972. My father admired Mr. Kendrick immensely and invited him over to our quarters often. He was such fun to be around. I was 12 and enjoyed the base bowling alley near their offices. In order to get a ride home, I would walk over to their office by the end of the workday.  I would head straight to Mr. Kendick's office first to get a smile and warm greetings. When my father was assigned back to Headquarters Marine Corps in  Arlington, VA, he recommended promoting Mr. Kendrick to my father's job as Comptroller. So happy to know that Mr. Kenrick lived such a long and respected life! He was a wonderful man and stalwart friend to my father.  

Karl loved family and God more than anything.  I will remember Karl ("Papa") for his kindness, generosity, integrity, humor and zest for life.  He loved sports, and his favorite basketball team was the NC Tar Heels.  We watched many basketball games and Super Bowls together.  I remember watching the very first Super Bowl game in the Kendricks' living room in 1967!

He took me deer hunting at Camp Brinson.  He was a master woodworker and in 1968 made a record cabinet for me to keep all of my albums in.  I still have that record cabinet in my house today.

Karl literally raised my two daughters, an 8 and a 6 year old, through their school graduation years.  He will surely be missed by everyone that ever knew this gentleman.

I met Karl when I was 6 years old as my brother started dating his high school sweetheart, Karl's daughter, Karen.  A southern gentleman indeed, he was quick with wit and faster with friendship.  He claimed my family as part of his extended family and my boys knew him as "Papa" as well.  Our memories with him are dear and we will miss him .  During the hurricane season a couple of years ago, I was very fortunate to get to tell Karl, face to face, that I loved him and thanked him for his friendship.  He simply told me, "I love ya'll too son".  Great man, a life well lived.

My Papa, a remarkable, loving man who spent most of his life bringing so much joy to those who knew him.  My fondest memories of him were with grandmother, Christmas gatherings and time spent with my sister and cousins growing up.  His sense of humor was his best attribute in my opinion, always making his loved ones laugh and smile.  He will forever be in my heart!  You will be missed and remembered. Uncle Karl has always been a very special person to me and my favorite uncle. He could make me smile or laugh at any time and I have many fond memories of him. 

As a child, I would look out the window, waiting for Uncle Karl, Aunt Lib, and my wonderful cousins Betty and Karen to arrive at our house or for my family to arrive at theirs. Those were very happy and fun occasions.

When I was in college at ECU Uncle Karl and Aunt Lib “rescued” me on some weekends when everyone seemed to be going home but mine was too far. Their home was my home and they were my loving and kind substitute parents. Once Uncle Karl even bought two dozen doughnuts for me to share with the girls in my dorm.

Through the years I was always amazed at Uncle Karl’s strength, resilience and love of life. I love and will miss him!

My favorite uncle.  I remember him as loving, gentle, humorous and such a joy to be around.  Here is a picture of my wife, my sister and my cousin at Uncle Karl's 90th birthday party.  

You will be missed but fondly remembered by so many, Uncle Karl.

KK was a great mentor and friend.  I loved him  like a second father.  Enjoyed many weekends hunting with him at Camp Bronson.  I will miss him.

  I was privileged to of married been his grand daughter.  If there was a better man then Karl that I've met in  life, I've yet to meet that gentleman.  Godspeed, Karl.
