Joe was born in 1945 to Joseph C. Couch and Olive R. Couch. The family made their home in Havelock, NC where Joe played football and graduated from Havelock High. Following high school he married the love of his life, Mari Bearnes, just weeks before deploying to Vietnam where he served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart. He was a proud soldier and retired after 22 years of service. He then enjoyed a successful 20 year career with Bosch. In his spare time he loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR and serving other veterans through "On Target 4 Vets."
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, and a sister, Beth.
He is survived by two sons, Kendell "Jay" Couch (Brooke Kuzma) of Supply, NC and Joseph C. Couch, III (Heather) of Havelock; one sister, Annette Couch of Grand Rapids, MN; one sister-in-law, Lisa Richey (Tom Caperton) of Lake Waccamaw, NC; and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Joseph "Blake," Harley, McKenna, and Jerrah; two nephews, John and Jeff; one niece, JoAnn; and his beloved dog, Tikka.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at the Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Joe's favorite charities, "On Target 4 Veterans" (ontarget4vets.org).
