John Clarence Cochran, Jr., 83, of Cove City, North Carolina passed away at home on Friday, April 8, 2022. John was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 5, 1939 to the late John Clarence Cochran, Sr. and Mary Burdette Davis Cochran.
He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Forrestal through two tours in the Mediterranean Sea. Later he served three tours of duty with the US Army Artillery as a helicopter pilot, receiving multiple service awards including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and volunteering at the Cove City Library.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia J. Cochran; his daughter, Valerie C. Dunaway of Dallas, GA; sons, Douglas Warren of Nashville, TN and Andrew Warren and wife, Julie of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, D. Dalton Arnett of Weaver, AL, Leslie Warren Detrick, Julie Warren Hughes and husband, David, Amber Warren, Chris Handberg and husband, Jason, and Opal Warren; his sister, Molly C. Clay of Bethesda, MD; four great-granddaughters, and a niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia C. Arnett and son, Robert Warren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1780 Asbury Rd., Cove City, NC, 28523.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 6:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with military honors.
