Hazel Hawkins

Hazel Hawkins, 90, of Cove City, went home to be with her Lord and was reunited with her loving husband, Lincoln Hawkins, and son, James (Red Eye) Hawkins, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Mary was born September 17, 1931 to the late, Henry and Luellen Mercer.

Hazel and Lincoln were married on December 15, 1956. Later on they were proud parents of John, James, and Sarah. Hazel loved being a mother and wife and cherished raising her children and helping Lincoln on the farm. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Hazel was a member of Cove City Christian Church where she served as the Treasurer and florist. For 28 years Hazel served on Cove City Rescue Squad #32 as an EMT and Board Member. After retiring as an EMT, Hazel began working at LeChris Health Systems. In her spare time Hazel enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, playing cards, working on puzzles, and fishing. Hazel had a heart of gold and loved serving her community. Her wisdom was above and beyond and anyone who knew her listened to her words closely. The thing that Hazel loved the most was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Hawkins-Schwarz; son, John Lincoln Hawkins; special daughter-in-law, Johnnie Hawkins; two very special grandchildren, Jennifer Hawkins and Jessica O'Dell; great-grandchildren, Graceyn and Teagan; brothers, Lynwood Mercer and Mort Mercer; sister, Mavis Ircink; sister-in-law, Barbara Gail Mercer; and many loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Hazel is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lincoln Hawkins; son, James (Red Eye) Hawkins; brothers, Andrew Mercer, Foye Mercer, George Mercer, Woodrow Mercer, James Mercer, Johnny Mercer, and special brother, Bobby Gene Mercer; and sisters, Adelle Cauley and Janie Craft.

The family will receive friends at Cove City Christian Church on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 PM. A Celebration of Hazel's Life will begin at 3:00 PM. Following the service Hazel will be laid to rest beside her husband at Cove City Cemetery. In addition to the services, the family welcomes visitors at the home of Hazel.
