Graham Wadsworth Brown Sr., age 95, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at CarolinaEast Medical Center. He was born on April 23, 1927, in New Bern, to William and Claudia Brown. He married Pat Stokes of Pine Tops on May 22, 1954 and the two were married for 68 years. She preceded him in death earlier this year on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II which included being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, being a Seabee and serving as a dispute clerk. Additionally, he was a Highway Patrolman and worked for Bridgestone Firestone.
Graham was an avid gun collector and enthusiast who loved his trucks, planes, motorcycles, and boats over the years. His favorite pastimes included dove hunting, Turner Classic Movies, eating ice cream, drinking coffee and grape Kool-Aid, watching the birds fly over the Neuse River at Union Point Park, and participating in the Turkey Shoot organized by Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2514 where he won a turkey every year. Graham was a willful restless spirit that was a diligent learner throughout his life that kept his mind sharp until his last days.
He is survived by his two children, Graham W. Brown, Jr. (Darlene) and Patricia Denton (Jeff); grandchildren, Cathy Brown Hardison (Andy), Mary Britt Brown, Graham Brown, III (Sanja), Brianna Moore, Chaz Denton, and Sera Brown; one great-grandchild, Graham W. Brown, IV; and sister, Claudia Roach. Sadly, Graham was preceded in death by his wife Pat Stokes Brown; parents William and Claudia Brown; siblings, William Brown, Dorothy Mueller and Donald Brown.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
