Eleanor G. Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Glory on Friday, October 8, 2021. Eleanor was born in Yonkers, New York on September 4, 1931, the daughter of Ann Gulish and Thomas Gulish.
She attended school in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. She also attended the Butler Business School, in Yonkers, N.Y. She worked at North American Phillips Company in Hastings, N.Y. as an electric assembler. Eleanor then became a telephone operator for the N.Y. Telephone Company in their Dobbs Ferry office. She and her family were members of the Bethany Chapel, in Yonkers, N.Y., a fundamental Christian Church. Eleanor married Ernest Johnson on November 22, 1950, during the Korean War. Earnest was in the U.S. Air Force and Eleanor had their daughter, Deborah Lynn Johnson while her husband was on duty in Alaska. After the war, Earnest joined IBM and the family moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where they lived for 12 years. Ellie and Ernie moved south to Raleigh, N.C. in 1965 with their daughter, Deborah Lynn and son, Clifford Scott. Eleanor was always active in their church and held bible study classes in her home. After the children grew up and married, Ellie and Ernie moved to New Bern, N.C. to a waterfront community known as Fairfield Harbour. The family enjoyed the waterfront location with boating, sailing, and fishing. Ellie loved her Lord and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed opening her home to a local Bible Study Group which held weekly study classes. Ellie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to three grandchildren that she loved; Melissa Warren, Julie and Jason Johnson. She and her husband celebrated 70 blessed years of marriage in November 2021.
Eleanor (Ellie) is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Ernest, their son, Clifford Scott, and their daughter, Deborah Lynn Mander and Eleanor's loving sister, Mary Ann Weiss.
A funeral service for Eleanor will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28560. Following the funeral service she will be entombed at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC.
