Edwin Thomas Sweeney

Mr. Sweeney was born May 11, 1950 in New Albany, MS. He was a 1968 graduate of Corinth High School and in 1972 graduated from the University of Mississippi. Edwin worked as a teacher and then a salesman until his retirement. He spent years of struggle and strife to survive and support his son and spent his last years ferociously battling cancer. Although in the end the cancer won, he never wavered in his drive or motivation. He was someone who loved his friends and changed lives for the better due to his influence. Edwin was especially proud of his son, Marine Corp Staff Sergeant, Wesley Sweeney. Edwin was preceded in death by his father, Thomas B. Sweeney and his beloved daughter, Ashlie Rodie. He is survived by his son, his mother, Elizabeth Sweeney, two sisters, Catherine Hewlette and Margaret Baskin, three grandchildren, Jade Sweeney, Peyton Rodie and Trevor Rodie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

No formal service will be held, but memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
