She was born in Paterson, New Jersey on November 4, 1938, to the late Daniel and Adelaide Van Wagenen. Debbie grew up in Kingston, New York. She attended Syracuse University and graduated from Albany Business College.
Debbie married Bernard "Bernie" Palmeri in 1986. They spent a wonderful lifetime together by sailing on their boat and skiing at various resorts. Their love for each other was special. When Debbie was not spending time with Bernie and her family, you could find her attending Bible studies, Zumba classes, and even a book club. Along with these clubs, she was a member of the DAR, Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club, R.V. Club, and the women's golf club. Debbie was active in the community because she had a heart for helping and serving others. She volunteered with many organizations, including her role as the founder of the "Secret Santa" program to help the families in need. Debbie cherished this time because it brought so much joy and happiness to many children and their families.
All who knew Debbie loved her. She had an infectious smile and a contagious laugh. Debbie will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Debbie leaves behind her children, Mike DeLorenzo, Chris DeLorenzo, and Maria Baird; stepson, Charles Palmeri; 5 grandchildren; and many loving family members and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Palmeri, who passed away a month prior.
A Funeral Mass for Bernie and Debbie will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Following the service, Debbie and Bernie will be laid to rest together at St. Joseph Cemetery.
