Charles loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. During his free time, you could find Charles fishing, hunting, or golfing; however, one of his main hobbies involved cars. Charles greatly enjoyed restoring classic cars, building engines, or racing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pamela Turnage; daughter, Dorothy Denise Turnage and Robert Potter; brother, Jeffery Turnage (Marie); sister, Claudia Ives (Tommy); brother in laws, Jim Sullivan and Robert Brock; father in law, Col. LeRoy Barton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Turnage "Popsie and Granny;" sisters, Linda Brock, Pamela Jean Turnage, and Linda Smith; brother in law, Don Smith; and sister in law, Cheryl Sullivan.
A Celebration of Charles Life will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Cotten Funeral Home. The family asks those who have a classic car to come and show off your car in honor of Charles.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s fund.
