Carolyn Everhart Rhodes passed away peacefully at home June 12, 2023, in the arms of her family including the love and attention of longtime caregivers under the supervision of Ms. Patricia…a true and faithful member of our family.
The ceremony celebrating her life will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park, 900 River Road, New Bern NC Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 4:00 pm under the Lakeside Chapel Pavilion. Attendees are invited to attend a dutch-treat gathering at Famous Restaurant, 2210 Neuse Blvd, New Bern NC to continue the celebration after the service, if they desire.
She is survived by two siblings, brother Lester and sister Jeanie along with Carolyn’s three children…Dusty, Ricky, and Anna.
Descended from a family clan of Outer Banks kin (hoigh toiders, all) Carolyn has deep, eastern NC lineage spanning many generations.
As a graduate of East Carolina University, Carolyn had a lifelong career teaching hundreds (perhaps thousands) of 7th graders attending HJ Macdonald Middle School, known to them at that time as Ms. Tholen. Mom also pursued her passion for teaching as an in-character guide at Tryon Palace for many years, during, and well after, retiring from the Craven County school system.
“GG” to some, “GMa” to others, there are seven grandchildren …Chris, Ryan, Jonathan, Tammy, Jessica, Eric II, and Nathan, plus Eight great grandchildren…William, Matthew, Lainey, Gavin, Eva, Felicity, Emma, and Eric III that can all trace their existence to her through her children, who will all remain forever grateful of the love she poured out on us.
Mom may be out of sight but will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
Love you Mama
