Theresa D. Galipeau, 97, of New Bedford, MA passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 in Duck, North Carolina where she resided with her loving daughter and caregiver Joan Moore for the last five years. She passed away peacefully with Joan holding her hand.
Theresa was born on May 15, 1925 in Acushnet, MA, the daughter of August St. Jean and Ida (Fredette) St. Jean. She was the fifth of six children, sisters Blanche, Jeanette, Lillian, Aline, and brother Raymond. In 1945 she married Alfred J. Galipeau, a World War II Navy Veteran. They had six children, the eldest daughter who was stillborn. They were member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in New Bedford.
She was a long time employee of the A & P Food Stores as a clerk in the meat department. A member of United Food and Commercial Workers International Union 328 and UFCW Retirees Club.
She had a long and happy marriage, loved to travel and went yearly to Northern New England and Canada for autumn leaf season. Predeceased in 1987, after Alfred’s death, she began to spend her winters in the Florida Keys with her lifelong friend, Germaine Letendre. Later in her life, she met and married Arthur Silva in 1999. They spent their winters in the Florida Keys then moved to Brooksville, FL and summered in Portsmouth, RI.
She is survived by her children, Alfred J. Galipeau of New Bedford, Roger Galipeau and partner Tami Daniel of Fairhaven, Richard Galipeau and wife Janet of Rochester, Jean Galipeau and wife Sandra Lovely of Tiverton, RI, and Joan Moore and husband David of Duck, NC; her six grandchildren, Ariel, Chantel, Caycie, Megan, Sarah, and Jen; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Theresa lived a long and happy life with the love of both her husbands and her children, she was kind to all and will be missed.
Her visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2022 from 4 -6 p.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
