Robert J. “Moose” Fournier, 78, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 7, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital after complications from an accidental fall. He was the former husband of the late Pauline (Bizzarro) Fournier.
Born in Acushnet, son of late Raymond and Stella (Bollea) Fournier, he was a lifelong area resident employed by the former J.C. Rhodes and then by the New Bedford School Department until his retirement. Bob was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s Church and also attended Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Bob served in the United States Army National Guard. He had a heart of gold and his personality was very happy-go-lucky and carefree. He loved sports, especially golf and Red Sox baseball. He was a member of the Whaling City Golf Course for over 50 years and golf was his true passion. Bob loved scratching lottery tickets, playing KENO, and enjoying a Coors Light. He also enjoyed cooking for others, hanging out with his buddies, and spending quality time with his boys.
He is survived by three sons, Scott Fournier and his wife Lori of New Bedford; Christopher Fournier and his significant other Missy Frye of Hampstead, NC; and Daniel Fournier of New Bedford; as well as a sister, Judith Poulin, and her husband David of New Bedford; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 9 a.m. at the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4 – 7 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.rock-funeralhome.com.
