Paul A. Bernard

Paul A. Bernard, age 92, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Doris A. (Richard) Bernard, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Alice (Fortier) Bernard.

Paul was a Superior Court Officer for many years and a proud veteran of the Navy. He enjoyed working with his hands, making furniture, painting, communicating over radio all over the world, and putting his creative mind to work on many projects. Spending time with his family was very important, especially with his grandchildren with whom he adored. Paul was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his loving wife, Doris, are his children, Paula Bernard of New Bedford and Cheryl Bernard-Dort and her husband Carl Dort lV of N. Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Jenny Fuller of New Bedford, and Hailey Dort of N. Dartmouth; his great-grandchildren, Domitri Woodbury and his companion Maria Cardelle of Texas, Ryjeni Woodbury and Jayden Woodbury both of New Bedford; his great-great grandchildren, Lylynn and Mariellis Woodbury both of Texas; his sister, Lucille Masson of Acushnet, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald R. Bernard and Dorothy Zajac.

Paul’s family would like to give special thanks to his doctor, Dr. Ahmet F. Dirican and the nurses and aides from Bristol Hospice of Fall River for making his last few months a time of care and total respect.
