Mark Cathcart, 1965-2025, teed off into the great beyond on April 21, 2025, undoubtedly in search of the ultimate 19th hole. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a golf swing that was more passion than precision.
Born in New Bedford, Mark was the beloved son of Bruce Cathcart and the late Sandra (Sullivan) Cathcart. He is a proud graduate of Holy Family and spent his career working for Martignetti, where he was a dedicated member of the Teamsters Union.
Born to live large and laugh loud, Mark never met a fairway he didn't like or a cold beer he couldn't make colder. Whether he was scoring birdies or (unfortunately) some bogies, golf was more than a hobby - it was his happy place. His favorite foursome? Any combo of friends and family willing to trade scorecards for stories and mulligans for memories.
Mark was the guy who could turn any moment into a memory, usually with a perfect-timed one-liner or a story that got better every time he told it. His laugh was loud, his heart even bigger, and his ability to make you laugh till you cried was practically legendary.
He is survived by his loving companion, Karen McAuliffe of Weymouth; his sister Janine Wunschel and her husband Michael of Dartmouth; his brother Gary Cathcart and his wife Lisa of Florida; his niece Elizabeth Stauffer and her companion Nathan of Dartmouth; and his nephew Aaron Stauffer of New Bedford; cousin David Cathcart and his wife Janna of Georgia; his uncle Wayne Cathcart and his wife Donna of New Bedford; his aunt Jonalee Collard and her husband Paul of Tiverton; his stepmother Patricia Wunschel of Dartmouth; and many cousins who will forever carry his spirit - preferably with a cold beer on the golf course. Though he's gone, the sound of his laugh and the clink of his beer bottles will echo at every family gathering and golf outing to come.
Fairways forever, Mark. You played life like a pro.
