Maria Dolores Costa

Maria Dolores Costa, 90, of Dartmouth, died on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Hortencio Costa, to whom she was married for 73 years, and daughter of the late Jose Jacinto Medeiros and Aldina Amaral Medeiros.

Born in Sao Pedro Nordestinho, Sao Miguel, Azores, she came to the United States in 1958 and lived in New Bedford before settling in Dartmouth in 1972.

Mrs. Costa had worked as a stitcher for Bristol Clothing, Calvin Clothing and MI Phoenix until her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, trips to the casinos and always kept a very clean home. She and her husband enjoyed visiting with friends and loved spending time with her family who will miss her dearly.

Survivors include her husband Hortencio Costa and their grandson Eric Costa both of Dartmouth; her brother Domingos Medeiros and his wife Pauline of New Bedford; her brother Jose Medeiros and his wife Almerinda of Fairhaven; her daughter-in-law Theresa Costa of Dartmouth; her nephew and caregiver Antonio Costa of Dartmouth; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was the mother of the late Edward “Eddie” Costa and the sister of the late Maria dos Anjos Lerias.

Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 9 am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth.
