Born in Port Chester, NY, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Alice (Larochelle) Lariviere, she had resided in E. Freetown for the past 47 years.
She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy in Providence and attended Bryant College.
Lucille had worked as a Senior Interviewer for the Department of Unemployment for 20 years.
A woman of strong faith, Lucille was an active communicant of St. John Neumann Church where she volunteered and cleaned the church every Tuesday. She volunteered at The Oaks where she was known as the ice cream woman. She was a hospice volunteer and shared her baked goods with patients and staff. Lucille loved playing weekly dominos and bridge games with her group of friends. She enjoyed knitting for family and friends, baking, reading and was a fan of the Red Sox. In younger years, she was an avid bowler.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Stephen J. Messier of Acushnet, Deborah A. Messier-Mayer and husband Donald of Fairhaven, Richard J. Messier and wife Gladys of NC, William J. Messier and wife June of Dartmouth, Mark E. Messier and wife Carol of WA, Michelle Berberian and husband Paul of Fairhaven and Donna M. Mayer and husband Darren of Fairhaven; a brother, Raymond Lariviere of Acushnet; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Messier of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Lariviere of New Bedford; twenty two grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Dennis R. Messier and his wife Michelle (Tetreault) Messier, her brother, Roger Lariviere and her daughter-in-law, Jeannette M. Messier.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 9:30am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. John Neumann Church.
