Lucille (Medeiros) Correia of New Bedford passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Bedford on April 29, 1939 to the late Antonio and Maria (Ferro) Medeiros. She resided in New Bedford her entire life, where she graduated from New Bedford High School with highest honors in 1957 and stayed active on the High School Reunion Committee.
Lucille was the wife of the late Manuel V. Correia with whom she enjoyed many wonderful years until his passing in 1999. They married when she was just 21 and she spent the first 15 years as a devoted loving wife and mother to her 3 children. In 1976 she started her career as a bookkeeper at J.B.Lumber Co. of South Dartmouth, a family-owned business. She spent over a decade working at Cove Discount Store until it's closing and later became a clerk at the New Bedford Health Department until her retirement in 2009.
She thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, taking road trips in their motorhome and camping under the Bourne Bridge for the entire summers with her children. She loved fishing and boating especially in Port St. Lucie with her son Matthew and his family. She was always eager and proud to share her Madeiran heritage and continuing family traditions that will be carried on for years to come. She never missed a Christmas eve hosting the entire family and friends from near and far; all were welcome, there were times she had close to 100 people in the course of the evening. There was nothing Lulu enjoyed more than a day spent in the sun followed by long drives ending with coffee ice cream (with extra hot fudge). But by far what she loved most of all was her visits from her children, grandchildren and her much loved great-grandchildren. Her best days were the days surrounded by them all.
Lucille, lovingly known as Lulu, Lulubell, Ma, Momma and Vavo, was best known for her unconditional love of family, her dedication in caring for her elders and most importantly her love of God. Her faith is what carried her through her darkest days, especially the tragic loss of her daughter and son-in-law four years ago. She selflessly put her grief aside to be an example of the strength and courage for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela Clarkson and her husband Randy Clarkson of Westport, her son Matthew Correia and his wife Cristine Correia of Port St. Lucie, Florida, her cherished grandchildren Ashley Oliveira, Brittany Oliveira, Craig Clarkson, Bethany Correia, Tyler Correia and his wife Brianne, and Justin Oliveira, 5 great-grandchildren Kynlee, Caden, Landon Raelynn and Layla, along with several cousins and nieces and nephews who she loved very much.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her most beloved daughter, Catherine Oliveira, and her husband David Oliveira, as well as her first-born grandson Randy C. Clarkson. She was also the loving sister to the late Leonard Medeiros and the late David Medeiros.
The family would like to thank everyone who prayed for them and a very special thanks to the amazing staff at Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association (Hospice division) and Care with Love, Holistic Nursing Care.
