Katherine H. (Olejasz) Lanczycki, 94, of Fairhaven and formerly of New Bedford died Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She was the beloved wife of 39 years to the late John J. Lanczycki, who passed away December 3, 1980.
Born in Acushnet, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Fal) Olejasz, she was a lifelong resident of the area.
Katherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Casimir Parish, the St. Casimir Senior Club, and the Holy Rosary Society, and she loved to travel with the seniors. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, and crocheting. She always encouraged her family to keep up the Polish traditions, especially for the holidays, and she enjoyed cooking Polish food. She will be missed by her family and always will be remembered for her warm smile and her strong spirit.
She is survived by three sons, John J. Lanczycki, Jr., and his wife Lynn of Springfield, James J. Lanczycki and his wife Alice of Somerset, and Richard J. Lanczycki and his wife Dawn of New Bedford; two daughters, Marianne K. DiConza of Leominster, and Barbara H. Boothe and her husband Harry of Savannah, Georgia; daughter-in-law Patricia Lanczycki of New Bedford; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Joseph J. Lanczycki, mother-in-law of the late James G. DiConza, and sister of the late Walter Olejasz, Anna Blouin, Victoria Tomasik, Agatha Osga, Helen Ferreira, and Sophie Cardinal.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 9 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 235 North Front St., New Bedford. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 PM.
