Joseph Costa, Jr., 89 of East Freetown, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023 in his residence with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Natalie M. (Vasconcellos) Costa, whom he shared 70 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in Falmouth, a son of the late Joseph Costa, Sr. and Mary Augustine (Miranda) Costa. He was a resident of the southcoast for many years. Joseph served his country honorably in the United States Army, serving in Germany. He was employed by Turner Construction for more than 50 years.
Joseph loved his family dearly. Family was the most important thing to him and Natalie. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement, he enjoyed relaxing, fishing, gardening and spending the summers on Cape Cod. Joseph was known to all as a caring and compassionate man, who was extremely strong and wise beyond his years.
In addition to his wife Natalie, he is survived by his children, Kenneth J. Costa of Taunton, Brian K. Costa of Freetown, Glen D. Costa of Braintree, Voncia D. Costa of East Freetown, Rhonda L. Strong and her husband Ronnie of Taunton, Renee S. Costa of NH and Timothy D. Costa of Taunton and daughter-in-law Deborah Costa; his siblings, Carol Gonsalves of Middleboro, Daniel Costa and his wife Mary of Peabody, Jacqueline Bell of Wareham, Eulius Martins of Wareham, Samuel Martins of Taunton and LeRoy Martins of Maine; 32 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late
Joseph Costa III and brother of the late George and John Costa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 9:00 to 10:30AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashely Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by his funeral service at 11:00AM in the Calvary Pentecostal Church, 33 Braley Rd., East Freetown, MA 02717.
