Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Fidele and Elmina (Blanchard) Daigle, he was a life-long resident of the area.
Mr. Daigle served in the US Army, 88th Infantry Division “Blue Devils” during WWII in the European Theatre. He was an Optician and the Proprietor of Daigle Optical in New Bedford for many years. He was also employed at the Optical Lab in New Bedford for several years. He was a Treasurer and Sight Conservation Chairman of the Sassaquin and Chelsea Lions Club, where he received several appreciation awards. He was a Deacon at Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a recipient of the Marian Medal. He was a commander of the New Bedford Civil Air Patrol during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
In addition to his wife survivors include: his children, Michel Daigle and his wife Tere Mozaz of New Bedford, Janice Gerard and her husband Harold Jr. of West Wareham, Carol Mahar and her husband Glenn of New Bedford and Deborah “Miriam” Daigle of Eugene, Oregon; nine grandchildren, Harold III, Michael and John Gerard, Paula Daigle, Shawn, Mark, Luke and Adam Mahar and Aurion David; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 9 AM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours, Monday 4-8 PM.
