Deolinda J. Alves

Deolinda J. Alves, age 90, of New Bedford, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of William Alves with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.

A lifelong New Bedford resident She was the daughter of the late Luiz and Deolinda (Aguiar) Jesus. She worked as a supervisor at the National Silver Company until her retirement.

Survivors in addition to her husband are a brother Raymond Jesus and his wife Lucille of New Bedford, a sister, Irene Vieira and her companion John Medeiros of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by nine siblings: Luiz, Albert, Joseph, and Gilbert Jesus, Sophie Cunha, Leopoldina Calheta, Emma Rodrigues, Betty Holzer and Alice Lauzon.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Alden Court and the Crapo Ward at St. Luke’s for the excellent care they provided to Deolinda.

Her Visitation will be held Thursday September 21, 2017 from 4-7pm at the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earl Street, New Bedford. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
