Shirley Maxine (Craig) Mitchell, 92 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at The Villages of Historic Silvercrest in New Albany, Indiana. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy where she sang, played the piano, and taught Sunday School for many years. Shirley was devoted to her family - sharing her faith, laughter, and love. She was a remarkable cook who practiced making daily meals for a family of ten. Her pies, chicken dumplings, and divinity fudge are legendary.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Orville T. and Rosa Mae Craig; husband, Marshall Mitchell; and sisters, Margie Maxwell, Billie Alice Bush, and Nelda Ridgley. She is survived by her eight children, Judith Thames, Carol Stewart, Gerald Mitchell, June Webb, Theresa Peters, Larry Mitchell, Annette England, and Dale Mitchell; three brothers, Gary, Randy, and Kent Craig; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10 am to 1 pm on Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Service will take place at 1 pm Monday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.
