Richard E. Whelan

A Bardstown, Kentucky native and graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory, he was preceded in death by his parents Charles Henry and Jessie (Stiles) Whelan and is survived by brothers William (Patricia), Joe (Ann), Patrick (Jayme) and Nick (Ela), along with several nieces and nephews.

Richard was the retired president and former owner, along with his wife, of Torco Testing Services, Inc., a member of the Pyramid Trust and the former New Albany Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany, the Knights of Columbus, a Kentucky Colonel, a lifelong UK Basketball fan and loved a game of UpWords with his family.

His was a life well lived and he leaves behind a great many quality people who will mourn his passing. Visitation will at Kraft Funeral Home, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany from 3:00 pm ~ 7:00 pm Monday. His Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Tuesday in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
