Mary Ann Smith

Mary Ann Smith; age 85, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on January 11, 2024. Mary Ann was born on August 23, 1938, in Fort Thomas Kentucky to the late George and Cora (Riley) Koehler. She was married to her husband of 36 years, the late Donald Lee Smith. Mary had a long career at Chase Bank where she later retired. After her retirement, Mary Ann worked at Churchill Downs, a job she loved!

Mary Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the light of her life and loved spending time with them. Some of this time was spent traveling to great places such as Ireland and France. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having a good time. Mary Ann was a strong-willed, hardworking, independent lady. She had a huge heart and a kind soul. Her neighbors and friends all called her “Nanny”. Mary Ann was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, and husband, Donald Lee Smith, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Ann Martin.

Mary leaves behind her three children, Sheryl “Sherry” Hill (Robert), David Allen, and Brenda Kaye Powers (Dixie); seven cherished grandchildren, Melissa Hill (Edward), Josh Hill (Megan), Lindsay Smith (Benjamin), Erin Blair, Rachel Ann Smith (Brett Harris), Ryan Martin (Christie), and Riley Rose Smith; eleven cherished great-grandchildren, Reagan, McKinley, Jade, Ari, Rowan, Reid, Ruby, Hazel, Luca, Arlo, and Linc; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a service to follow at 6:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana.
