Jerry Shelton, 81, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at his home in New Albany, Indiana. He was a graduate of Providence High School in 1957 and of the University of Notre Dame in 1961. He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1962 – 1968. After graduating from Notre Dame he worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company until 1975. He spent 20 years at Irrigation Supply Company in Louisville, KY helping grow the three-person start-up company into a multi-million-dollar business. He retired from Water Works Supplies, Inc. in Jeffersonville, IN in 2003. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a member of the Bonnie Sloan Post #29 American Legion and the 40 & 8 Voiture.
Jerry loved his Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He enjoyed watching both men’s and women’s basketball and of course football. Over the years he became a fan of the colleges and universities where his children and grandchildren attended: Indiana University, Ball State University, U of L, Salisbury University, Virginia Tech, UC Santa Cruz and Cal State Fullerton. He even bled a little blue for UK, for his wife Betty.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Shelton in 2000. He is survived by his son Jeff Shelton (Laura) of Alexandria, VA; daughter Jill Shelton Kraus of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; step-daughter Kim Staton Bushong (Lloyd) of Sellersburg, IN; step-daughter Kelly Staton Bishop of Seymour, IN; sister Susie Shelton Schmidt of New Albany, IN; grandchildren Knute Kraus, Joshua Shelton, Justin Shelton, Michael Missi, Patrick Bishop, Jason Vander Tuig, Rochelle Vander Tuig, Emily Bishop and Rochelle Bishop; and former spouse Judith Hubbuch.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28 from 2 – 8 pm at Kraft Funeral Service 2776 Charleston Road in New Albany, IN. Funeral mass will held Friday, January 29 at 11 am Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 1752 Scheller Lane in New Albany, IN. Entombment will be held immediately following at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
