Florence "Flo the Barber" Brown Dolan

Florence Brown Dolan (Flo the Barber) was born in Corydon, IN and passed away peacefully at age 90 on March 29, 2023; on her own terms in her own bed at home in Nevada with her son Gary Witten and son-in-law Kempen Olivier as her dedicated loving caregivers from September 2020 to March 29, 2023.

Flo was a Korean War Widow; her husband and true love of her life, PFC Zee Anderson (Andy) Jeter, Jr., Wichita Falls, Texas, was Killed in Action by a missile in Korea on May 18, 1951. She was a Life Time Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hobart Beach Post 1693, New Albany, IN.

Flo the Barber was an Icon to the Town of Clarksville, IN community during her 63 years (1958-2021) as a working Barber in her own barber shop and known in 1958 as “Northside’s First Female Barber,” (Courier-Journal by Cliff Robinson). Flo loved all her customers and considered them her friends.

Flo was an Auctioneer for many years which included auctioning the Town of Clarksville’s surplus items and Police surplus items. Chief of Police Palmer said, “She was an Icon to the community.”

Flo was a Breast Cancer Survivor of more than two decades. Cancer did not take her life; Advanced Dementia and Parkinson disease shortened her life.

Flo was a loving wife to her husband and loving, giving Mother to her four children, her three Grandchildren, and two Great Grandchildren.

Flo is preceded in death by her first love in life husband PFC Zee Anderson (Andy) Jeter, Jr.; her daughter Deborah Arleen Tibbs; her parents Frank Averill Brown and Clarice Mildred (Bruch) Brown; all of her six siblings Alice, Leta, Frances, Philip, Wayne, Esther; her son Robert William (Tibbs) Witten; her Granddaughter Kristina M. Witten; her second love in life husband Paul Joseph (Thompson) Dolan WWII Veteran (married 1966 until his death 1997).

Flo is survived by her son David A. Witten and his family which includes Granddaughter Dr. Kaitlyn Witten; Grandson David Bradley Witten with his children Great-grand sons Carter Witten and Levi Witten, and Flo’s youngest son Gary Witten and his spouse Kempen Olivier.

Flo lived her life on her own terms every day. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed a shirt and give you anything else you needed, especially Peppermint Candy. Flo loved living life fully every day and she wanted to live to age 110. When she was told all her children would probably be dead should she live to age 110, Flo replied, “I will make new friends!” Mom you may now live with the true love of your life Andy. I am sure Andy has been waiting for you! After more than 72 years apart, Andy & Flo now together for an eternity of true love!
