Carl Huber Sr.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Carl Huber Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and co-founder of Huber’s Orchard & Winery in Starlight, Indiana. Carl passed away peacefully at home at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 25, 1940, Carl Sr. was the son of the late Carl T. and Marcella (Stumler) Huber. Growing up in Starlight, Carl worked alongside his older brother, Gerald, as they built one of Southern Indiana’s most historic family businesses. Together they transformed a Hoosier Homestead farm into a vibrant agritourism destination, now operated by the sixth and seventh generations of the Huber family. Carl’s contributions to Indiana’s agricultural industry, his dedication and his graciousness to family and community, have left an enduring legacy.

Carl Sr. was a proud graduate and strong supporter of Providence High School, where he met the love of his life, Linda (Zurschmeide) Huber. They were married for 58 wonderful years, creating a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. As members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight, faith guided their life. Card games, golf, and fun also filled Carl and Linda’s days, as well as travel adventures with their lifelong friends C.J. and Marie Naville.

Carl Sr. is survived by his loving children: Greg (Jan) Huber, Dennis (Julie) Huber, Carl Jr. (Tracy) Huber, and Ann (Craig) Miiller; grandchildren: AJ (Leah), Marcella (Dan), Allie (Isaac), Brittany (Kevin), Hannah, Simon, Carson, Haiden, Brooke, Jake, Carlie, and Avery; and great-grandchildren: Izzy, Myla, Emmy Lou, Quincy, James, Elliott, Owen, Waylon, and Leighton. He is also survived by his siblings: Kenny (Judy) Huber, Kathleen (Phil) Jacobi, Elaine (Bill) Sprigler, and Steve (Teresa) Huber; and his sister-in-law, Mary Jeanne (Schmitt) Huber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; brothers, Gerald, John “Donnie”, and Robert “Bob” Huber; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Huber.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Huber’s Plantation Hall, 19816 Huber Road, Starlight, Indiana. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Carl Sr.’s memory to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight.

Carl Sr.’s kindness and integrity will live in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Linda, and his family who preceded him in death.
