Thérèse Laura Marie Balamatowski

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thérèse Balamatowski (nee Fontaine) on Monday, July 12th, 2021 at Foyer Valade at the age of 93. Thérèse was predeceased by her loving husband, Boris, her precious daughter Susan, her parents, Edmour and Yvonne Fontaine, her sisters Lucille and Sr. Alma, her brothers, Joseph, Henri, Yvon, Maurice, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Thérèse will be lovingly remembered by her siblings: Aline, Gilles, Simone, Jacqueline, as well as numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces and friends.

Thérèse was born in Sainte-Agathe on November 13, 1927 and grew up as the second child from a large family. She learned to knit at the early age of four and became an avid knitter. Thérèse shared her talent by knitting many treasured sweaters, mittens and blankets for family, friends and people in need.

Thérèse was a very active member of the community and always kept herself busy. She worked for many years at the St. Boniface Hospital where she put her organizational skills to use by being supervisor of various departments while still volunteering at Foyer Valade on the weekends. Thérèse also volunteered countless hours at the St. Boniface Hospital.

In retirement, Thérèse and Boris were able to visit many parts of the globe. Among the highlights were trips to Yukon, England, Hawaii and Las Vegas. She and Boris also enjoyed memorable summers at the cottage where they welcomed many family members and friends.

Thérèse was blessed with her second family at the Résidence Despins where she resided for many years. The family would like to thank their personnel, staff and residents. Thérèse truly enjoyed the care and camaraderie that she received from each and every one of them.

The family would also like to thank all the staff at Misericordia Health Centre and Foyer Valade for their care and compassion.

Donations in Thérèse’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
