It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Rick Kullman, who passed away in his home on March 17, 2025, at the age of 77.
Rick will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Linda; his brother Brian (Joanne); his sister Kathleen; sister-in-law Frances; father-in-law Ed; brother-in-law Gordon (Angie); nieces Adrienne, Lauren, Holly (Nelson), Maria; Robyn (Jamie), Monica (Stephen) and his nephew Eric. He was predeceased by his mother Jean (née Harapiak), his father Alf, and his brothers Bruce and Gary (Frances).
Rick was born in Winnipeg on February 7, 1948. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic, starting with the delivery of both the Winnipeg Free Press and the Tribune in his neighborhood. Enlisting the help of his younger brothers, Brian and Bruce, Rick showed early signs of leadership and determination. His first full time job was working at McMillan Bloedel. From there he travelled to Edmonton where his passion for driving and operating heavy equipment blossomed.
Upon returning to Winnipeg, Rick established a towing company, which he and his brother Gary successfully operated for several years. Following the sale of the company, Rick embarked on a career in long-distance trucking. Over the years, he drove more than a million miles without a single accident or moving violation—a testament to his skill and dedication.
Rick's love for sports was evident throughout his life. Growing up in East St. Paul in the 1950s, he, his brothers, and neighborhood friends enjoyed playing baseball, hockey, curling and football. As an adult, Rick remained an avid sports enthusiast, holding season tickets for many years for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and faithfully following the Winnipeg Jets. He also enjoyed attending Goldeyes games with his wife, Linda.
Cremation has taken place, and a funeral service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. A private family interment will take place later.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Rick's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
