Olga will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kathy, Martin and Tanya, Allan and Nancy, and Joy; her dear sister Margaret Golas, many nieces and great-nieces and nephews and great-nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. Not only was she a great mom, she was also a great auntie!
She is joining in heaven her loved ones who went ahead, her loving husband Fred Lange, parents Daniel and Martha Gefreiter, sister Elsie Steiner, twin brother Erwin Gefreiter and great-nieces Karen Steiner and Keena Edwards.
Born on March 8, 1933 on the homestead near Whitemouth, Olga grew up and lived in the River Hills/Whitemouth area until her family moved to Lydiatt in 1948. She met Fred in Beausejour and they were married there in 1951. In 1952 they bought a farm and moved to Rosser where they farmed and raised their family. After Fred’s passing in 1997, Olga stayed on the farm until 2005 when she bought a house across the street from Joy in Sherwood Park, Alberta and settled in there.
Olga was a woman of many talents, with a long career in early child development, domestic engineering, farm equipment operation, and animal husbandry. Despite that heavy workload, she was still able to find time to be involved in the community, as a member of the Rosser WI, 4-H leader, curling in winter, teaching Sunday school, and chauffeuring the kids to their activities. The achievement she took the most pleasure in was her artistry in decorating wedding cakes. At the young age of 50, she began her 25 year career at H&R Block, retiring in 2007. She was a perfectionist, honest and hard-working, and she instilled those values in her children.
Olga had a great sense of humour and always had a story to tell. She used to love to tease her “identical” twin brother Erwin and could give as good as she got. Olga could tell stories of her experiences for hours and her neighbours in Sherwood Park used to love chatting with her. She was kind, generous and compassionate, a born care-giver. She had a strong sense of family and her love and pride for her children was limitless. To Olga, family included both the Gefreiter and Lange families and she was famous for her Christmas family gatherings. She made every effort to keep in touch with the members of the family and keep them in touch with each other.
Olga also had a very deep and abiding faith in God. Having taken bible study courses and taught Sunday school while her kids were enrolled, she never doubted that God was actively guiding her life and the lives of those she loved. We trust that Olga is now where “death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”
Prayer services will be held at 7:00pm on Monday, July 24 in the chapel at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Fermor Avenue and Navin Road, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25 at 11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church, 403 – 1st Street N, Beausejour followed by interment in the Beausejour Lutheran Cemetery.
The family expresses sincere thanks to the Strathcona paramedics and the ER staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton for their valiant efforts, caring and compassion. We would also like to especially mention our appreciation to Ray and Alice Lange and Ron Childerhose who were always there for Mom in Rosser whenever she needed them after Dad died, and to her neighbours Marc and Belinda Longpre and Brandon Hanasyk who helped her so much and kept an eye on her in Sherwood Park.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Olga’s memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 968, Beausejour, Manitoba R0E 0C0.
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. (Psalm 62:1)
We are comforted in the knowledge that according to her deeply rooted Christian faith, Olga is now free from all her infirmities, worries and cares, and shares in the inheritance of eternal rest with Christ. May Jesus receive her loving soul.
